Rossall Beach Residents Association was out in force once again on the morning of 1 December, braving an icy morning to clear litter and debris off Rossall Beach at Cleveleys.
Two recent awards in recognition of their efforts made the task all the more enjoyable. The group achieved an ‘Award for Improvement’ in the Neighbourhood category of North West in Bloom, but the icing on the cake was winning the ‘Green Community Award’ in the first ever Lancashire Green Awards, sponsored by the Gazette and BAE Systems.
‘Between us, we’ve really made a difference on Rossall Beach’ said Jane Littlewood, Chair of Rossall Beach Residents Association. ‘Winning awards like this is a great encouragement to the members of the group and the public who support us, and proves that what they do is appreciated and noticed.’
Extra help at the latest beach clean also came from pupils and staff from Park Special Needs School in Blackpool, Community Payback were a big help as usual, as were the Wyre Rangers. The most popular man on the beach was Terry the Ice Cream Man, not for his cornets and 99’s but for providing everyone with a hot cuppa to thaw fingers out on a really icy morning!
The next community beach clean will be on 2 February at 9.30 on Rossall Promenade, Cleveleys. |
